What image represents Europe? Is it the fall of the Berlin Wall, and thus the unification of East and West? Is it universal human rights and the advance of democracy, or pictures of the Second World War? Not since Antiquity has a single metaphor stood for Europe, for it is a multifaceted mosaic that in its post-national development as a peace project is no longer at risk of falling apart, despite the extreme tension forces impacting on it.

The Kunsthaus Zurich presents an exhibition about Europe in the arts in its historical reflection, showing around 100 paintings, drawings, videos and installations by more than 60 mainly modern and contemporary artists. They encounter literary and political statements by well-known figures in an exploration of Europe as peace project.

The Cindy Sherman app will accompany you through the exhibition. It offers the following functions:
- an audioguide in German, French and English
- images (selection) from the exhibition to complement the audioguide texts
- films with historical speeches and interviews on Europe
- interviews with the curators, Cathérine Hug and Dr. Robert Menasse, and experts in major European issues
- Demographic maps with exciting insights.

Our thanks go to Swiss Re – Partners in Contemporary Art for providing generous support for the exhibition.
